Letter from the President & CEO

December 2012

The past year has seen great progress in the continuing development of the Trans Canada Trail. New trail and refurbished sections were opened in British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Quebec, and shovels were put to the ground in many other regions of the country, including Alberta, Ontario and Prince Edward Island. We were also proud to announce a world-class addition to the Trans Canada Trail; we’re currently finalizing the details for the inclusion of Fundy National Park (NB) to our network of coast-to-coast-to-coast trails. That’s another 36.82 km towards our objective of connection by 2017, Canada’s sesquicentennial.

Special events and activities took place on various sections of the Trail throughout the year. International Trails Day was celebrated across the country, and Trail outings continue to be held throughout the year. As part of his dedication to our grand national project, and linked with his travels across the country, Governor General David Johnston visited Niagara and Regina, where he met with Trail users and supporters. His Excellency also officially designated The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Trail between Ottawa and Gatineau as a special part of the Trans Canada Trail, on October 26th in Ottawa.

With a busy year behind us and an equally busy year ahead, the Board and Staff of the Trans Canada Trail would like to thank each and every one of you for your support and dedication to our vision of connecting Canada and Canadians by 2017. We would not be where we are today without your support!

On behalf of all of us, I wish you a safe and happy holiday season, and I encourage you to give your family the best gift of all - a family outing on the Trans Canada Trail.

Best wishes,

Deborah Apps

President & CEO
