Trail Locator version 2 – Find pavilions, calculate distances & save your favourites!

November 30, 2007 | 5 comments

Back in mid-August, we launched the new and improved Trail Locator and promised to let you know as soon as the Pavilion finder was up and running. Well it is! Along with two other new features that will help you plan trips and virtually explore the Trail anywhere in Canada.

To date, we have built 76 Pavilions across the country. You will find them all in a drop-down list. Simply click on the one you’re interested in and it will appear on the map. Zoom in using the + sign for street-level detail. Easy! And remember – a donation of $50 buys you an inscription in the Pavilion of your choice. It’s a great way to contribute to your community.

Here’s a problem: you want to hit the Trail but you don’t know how long your trip will be. Our new distance calculator will tell you. You can choose a starting and ending point with a few clicks and the distance will be shown to you in kilometres or miles. To shorten or lengthen your trip, just clear the end point and select again.

Are there parts of the country you’re dying to explore? Is there a trail in your area that you visit frequently? With the new My Favourites feature, you can add your favourites to a list that will be saved on your computer. Next time you log on, the trails of interest to you will be waiting.

For My Favourites to function properly, you may need to change your browser settings. For Mozilla users, here’s how: Click on Tools and select Options from the drop-down menu. Under the Private Data section, unclick the selection marked “Always clear my private data when I close Firefox”. Explorer has similar settings for you to adjust if need be.

Our beta version phase is coming to an end so we really need your feedback! We’d love to hear your comments and suggestions. Please feel free to contact our programmer directly by clicking on the Web Developer link at the bottom of every Trail Locator page. If you need help, call our toll-free number at 1-800-465-3636 and we will be happy to assist you.

  • I was given a gift of a donation in my name to the Trail in 1996 but I don’t know which kiosk contains my name. How do I find that out?

  • I agree with Jack : It is difficult to find the “drop down list of pavillions”
Claudette has a good point, too.
Do you post answers for others to read?

  • Click on “Search for pavilions”. It’s listed under Tools, to the left of “Find a Trail near you”. Claudette’s question has been answered via e-mail. We are working on the possibility of having “virtual” pavilions on the Website as there are many people who would like to be able to access their inscription information online. We are limited in the number of staff we can employ, however, and our priority is to get names up in the actual pavilions. For anyone out there with a question concerning an inscription, you can call us toll-free between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday. The number: 800-465-3636. Those who prefer to use e-mail can send a message to info@tctrail.ca. All queries are answered so please be patient. Thank you!
