Reports to: Manager, Trail Development & Volunteers

This is a fantastic opportunity to join Trans Canada Trail! The Coordinator, Community Development & Volunteers is an important role within our Trail Team to facilitate maintenance programs and volunteer initiatives with local trail groups across Canada. You’ll be reporting to the Manager, Trail Development & Volunteers and working closely with the entire Trans Canada Trail team to support the strategic goals and objectives of the organization.

This position is open only to residents of Canada, who are eligible to work in Canada.

Key responsibilities

Coordination and Implementation

  • Assist trail operators nationally with participation in Trans Canada Trail initiatives and programs that address Trail connection and volunteerism
  • Receive, review and evaluate program applications, project documentation and project reports
  • Assess trail maintenance projects and provide accurate analysis, overview and recommendation
  • Ensure the network remains connected and viable by collaborating with Trail groups on specific needs, programs and projects
  • Contribute to the innovation, development and coordination of a national trail volunteer program
  • Be proactive in fostering new projects for continual Trail improvement and enhancement
  • Manage and monitor the progress of projects, with special attention to schedules and budgets
  • Maintain an accurate cash flow and meet deliverables
  • Provide recommendations on project implementation, including Trail maintenance and volunteer development
  • Research and assist in the development of new projects and partnerships
  • Ensure Trans Canada Trail recognition is in place for all assigned projects
  • Facilitate a national Trail Care program from planning and initiation to launch and completion.
  • Coordination and reporting on this multi-faceted inter-departmental level flagship program for the organization.

Planning, Budget, & Administration

  • Support the Manager with the implementation of projects and annual plan deliverables
  • Collaborate with the Manager to develop applicable annual plans and budgets

Staff & Leadership

  • Communicate with and support other Trans Canada Trail departments and staff
  • Collaborate with other teams to meet KPIs for each, as needed.
  • Participate in regular staff and Trail Team meetings

  • Demonstrated strength in partner engagement and fostering positive mutually supportive relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently problem solve and an adeptness at concept or idea generation
  • Results oriented
  • Strong file management and information organization skills
  • Knowledge of, and comfort working in and supporting, a not-for-profit organization
  • Ability to manage conflicting demands by establishing priorities
  • Ability to travel, as required
  • Computer Skills Required: Excellent knowledge of MS Office Suite and SalesForce or similar database management platforms
  • Flexibility and availability in terms of work hours
  • Keen interest in and understanding of trails and outdoor activities
  • University degree or equivalent experience, with a focus in recreation programming, community development, environmental and/or resource management
  • Experience working with volunteers and or volunteer organizations.
  • One-year related experience in trail maintenance, volunteer coordination preferred
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an advantage

Compensation package

We offer a compensation package that includes:

  • Hiring salary of $55,900 per year
