Barrie to Springwater Trail Opening

Date & Time

January 1, 1970

Details

Trail opening for the Barrie Active Transport Corridor, part of the 160 km Simcoe County Loop Trail. The Barrie to Springwater Gap Trail Project bridged a gap in the TCT between the North Simcoe Rail Trail in Springwater Township and the Trail network within the city of Barrie. This TCT section is a combination of off-road trails, local roads and sidewalks. The project constructed a total of 2.2 kilometres of off-road trails in two locations along the identified route however the route to close the Barrie Springwater Gap is approximately 11.8 kilometres in length. This section is also part of the 160 km Simcoe County Loop Trail which connects the municipalities of Barrie, Oro-Medonte, Orillia, Severn Township, Tay Township, Ramara Township, Midland, Penetanguishene, Tiny Township and Springwater Township through a common wayfinding system, primarily on existing off-road municipal trails. It is anticipated that the Simcoe County Loop Trail will be a significant tourism promotion initiative.
