Physically distant. Socially connected.

Do something great…at home!

We have always believed that everything we do is better when we do it together. We are still dedicated to encouraging solidarity, healthy outdoor lifestyles and supporting one another – but in new ways.

Our #BoredomBusters are our way of contributing to Canada’s #caremongering movement. This series of stories, games and timely suggestions are designed to brighten the days of everyone looking for ways to enjoy the outdoors safely or keep themselves or the kids entertained!

What we’re doing

Every day, our staff are closely monitoring updates from all governments and taking steps to help everyone in our community stay safe. Browse through our recent news items and announcements below.

Add a splash of colour to your day

Thanks to Crystal Salamon, one of our favourite artists, we’ll be sharing a brand new colouring sheet for you, your family and friends every week. Crystal will be creating a new design inspired by nature every Thursday, which you can print out, colour in and share with us on social media.

Stories to warm your heart

We are buoyed up by stories about what ordinary people are doing to keep safe and to lift one another’s spirits. We’ll also be sharing stories on how to enjoy the outdoors responsibly, while maintaining physical distancing and good hygiene habits.

Explore sections of The Great Trail of Canada…virtually!

Thanks to Google Street View technology, Parks Canada has put together some amazing virtual journeys, giving Canadians and anyone anywhere in the world the opportunity to virtually experience from their homes. All you need is a computer, mobile phone or tablet, and an internet connection.

Share your love of the Trail with a virtual background!

While having your Zoom work meetings, social happy hour with friends or chatting with loved ones during this era of physical distancing, download a background to showcase and share your love of The Great Trail of Canada. You can take your colleagues, friends and family on a virtual cross-Canada journey!

Videos from our community and beyond

In the past few weeks, we’ve heard some great tips and tales from our Champions, our volunteers, our donors, our supporters and our staff. We have also rediscovered some of our favourite nature videos from across the world.

Bring the outside in

Need to take a breather? We’ve got you. Over the past few years, we created some “slow TV” videos – feature-length recordings of adventures along sections of The Great Trail of Canada that you can enjoy from home. We’re glad that we can again share them with you now!

Updates

To prevent the further spread of Covid-19, we strongly encourage everyone using trails in our network to keep a distance of at least two metres from others in accordance with public health guidelines.

The situation evolves quickly, so we may not be made aware of all trail closures. We understand that the situation might be frustrating for Canadians who wish to enjoy some fresh air. However, some local volunteer trail organizations may be facing unforeseen challenges and may determine that it is in the public’s best interest to close their section.

Before going outside, please consult the latest updates from the Government of Canada and World Health Organization, as well as your province/territory, your municipality and the organization that manages your chosen section of the Trail.

Thank you
