Six Years on the Trail: An Evening with the Filmmaker Who Crossed Canada

Guests of Trans Canada Trail are invited to attend an evening with award-winning filmmaker and adventurer Dianne Whelan for an inspiring keynote and cocktail reception. Drawing from her extraordinary documentary, 500 Days in the Wild, Dianne will share insights into trails and trail stewardship gleaned from her trek across the entire Trans Canada Trail. Through captivating storytelling and breathtaking visuals, Dianne will delve into the symbiotic relationship between humans and nature, highlighting the importance of preserving and protecting our trails for future generations. Dianne’s keynote promises to leave attendees inspired to embark on their own trail adventures.

 

Following the keynote presentation, guests are invited to meet the Trans Canada Trail senior leadership team and board of directors to learn about the exciting initiatives at Trans Canada Trail. Our team is in Vancouver for the annual fall board meetings.

Dianne Whelan

Dianne Whelan is an award-winning Canadian Documentary filmmaker, and accomplished photographer, artist, storyteller, author and public speaker. Dianne has written, directed, and produced two award winning films, a three-part series for CBC, a Gemini-nominated interactive website, written two books and has exhibited her photographs in numerous art galleries in her 30-year career as an artist and storyteller.

In August 2021 she completed the land and water trails of the Trans Canada Trail and is the first person to do so. The journey is the subject of Dianne’s film project, 500 Days in the Wild, and will be the story of her next book. The film was purchased by Paramount + Canada and by Elevation Pictures for a theatrical release that began in Canada in March 2024.

Her feature documentary 40 Days at Base Camp was shot on Mt. Everest and is accompanied by her book about her Everest experience called, Base Camp: 40 Days on Everest. Dianne’s book This Vanishing Land, is based on her experience filming a documentary in Canada’s High Arctic called, This Land (NFB).
