In this episode of Trail Talk Live, we explore the intersection of trails and conservation.
Historically the environmental conservation movement and trail building community have operated independently. But now, trail operators are including conservation efforts into their trail maintenance and development plans as corridors for environmental protection and spaces for humans to reconnect with nature.
Mathieu Roy, CEO of Trans Canada Trail sits down with Harvey Locke, a conservationist and co-founder of the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative, the global Nature Needs Half Movement, and of the Nature Positive Global Goal for Nature. They discuss how trails can be part of the solution to environmental challenges, climate adaptation, and human well-being.
Harvey explains what happens when people use trails to experience nature, rather than simply a path from point A to B “trails have the potential to remind all of humanity that they are part of something larger and gives hope.”
