Help Us Build an EPIC Water Trail! Goal: $15,000

#GivingTuesday Project: The Path of the Paddle

Once connected, Ontario will offer 5,200 km of Trail – almost 2,000 km more than any other province or territory, and more than Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland’s provincial trail routes combined! The Path of the Paddle is a 1,000+ km route through northwestern Ontario with six unique trail segments for the enjoyment of paddling and walking/hiking, and it will connect Thunder Bay to the Manitoba border.
When it comes to developing a user-friendly section of the Trail, certain facilities are necessary to ensure safety and cleanliness, while limiting our ecological footprint. In the case of the Path of the Paddle, these essential amenities include signage, composting toilets, and bear-proof garbage containers.

Let’s Build a Legacy for Generations to Come

Every Canadian province and territory is home to its own section of The Great Trail, which is owned and operated at the local level. TCT works with regional trail groups and organizations in the planning, designing and building of the Trail in communities across Canada. Along with our regional Trail partner, Path of the Paddle Association, we’re working hard to put the final pieces of the puzzle together to have the Path of the Paddle ready in time for Canada 150 celebrations in 2017.

Alongside working with local Trail groups, we have also actively engaged First Nation and Métis communities throughout the development of The Great Trail in northern Ontario, partnering with six First Nations located along the route, including Fort William First Nation. Other partnerships include the Lake Superior Watershed Conservancy, and nine regional municipalities. The Path of the Paddle will pave the way for awesome eco-tourism initiatives by communities on or near the Trail, not to mention providing residents with an affordable means to enjoy the outdoors and get active.

Your help goes a long way. Your donation will not just provide access to unparalleled trail experiences; it will also ensure users and their families experience the Trail safely, that our wildlife is preserved and that local communities benefit from tangible, positive impacts on their lives and livelihoods.

Let’s build together!
