About the role
Position: Coordinator, GIS
Position Type: Full-time, 6-month contract with possibility of 14-month extension
Reports to: GIS Manager
Start Date: November 2, 2026
Location: Remote from home in Canada
The Coordinator, GIS is an important role within our Corporate Services team to support GIS-related activities aimed at supporting Trans Canada Trail’s mission. You’ll be reporting to Manager, GIS and working closely with the entire Trans Canada Trail team to support the strategic goals and objectives of the organization.
This position is open only to residents of Canada, who are eligible to work in Canada.
Key responsibilities
- Create, update, analyze and validate data integrity of geodatabases (PostgreSQL, ArcGIS Online, Salesforce, local geodatabases)
- Develop, maintain, and document the internal GIS databases, pulling together all relevant information needed to support the organization
- Assist in collection of data with staff and partners to support the internal GIS database and the CRM hosted in Salesforce
- Create maps as needed for Trans Canada Trail staff and its partners, local and regional trail associations, and consultants
- Assist in generating statistical reports and dashboards for the organization
- Maintain and update the database for the public-facing interactive web map and other web-based mapping applications (ArcGIS Online)
- Provide technical support to advance Trail projects
- Automate process, develop programs and forms when required
- With the support of the Corporate Services team, meet all assigned deliverables in the annual work plan
Desired experience and qualifications
- Minimum 1-3 years related GIS experience
- Degree in GIS, Geography, Earth Science, and/or related field
- Excellent oral and written communications skills (English required; advanced to fluent proficiency in oral and written French is a strong asset)
- Well organized and detail-oriented; able to manage high volumes of information and assets
- Highly professional with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Demonstrates initiative, sound judgment and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work autonomously in a remote environment
- GIS software and database expertise:
- ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
- PostgreSQL – an asset
- QGIS – an asset
- Programming:
- Good knowledge of Python
- JavaScript – an asset
- Familiar with Git – an asset
- Other computer knowledge – assets
- Other software:
- Salesforce CRM – an asset
- Adobe Series (Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro)
Compensation package
We offer a compensation package that includes:
- Equivalent of $55,900-65,000 a year, based on experience
