Beat the cold-weather blahs with an intro to snowshoeing

Join fellow trail lovers in embracing the beauty of winter with a snowshoeing hike with Sentiers Wakefield Trails – no experience required! This fun-filled day is presented in partnership by Sentiers Wakefield Trails and Trans Canada Trail.

While many of us spend the colder months cooped up inside, the wintertime can be an amazing season to explore nature while getting some physical activity and connecting with others. Research shows that spending as little as 20 minutes outside can reduce stress and improve your mood, something that becomes even more important during the cold, dark Canadian winter.

So, meet us at the Centre Wakefield La Pêche and strap on some snowshoes — provided free-of-charge, or bring your own — for a mind- and body-boosting hike along this beautiful section of the Trans Canada Trail. Complimentary hot chocolate and snacks will be available after the hike.

Schedule

10:00 AM – Meet at the Centre Wakefield La Pêche and get your snowshoes on.

10:15 AM – Welcome remarks and safety instructions before setting out on the hike.

10:30 AM – Snowshoeing hike begins. The route is 1.8 KM and will take approximately 45 minutes to complete at a leisurely pace. This wooded trail features majestic white pines and spectacular rock faces. We will depart from the Community Center heading northwest along the Trans Canada Trail. There is a moderate climb and decent along the route. Turn around at the Moulin Wakefield Mill Hôtel & Spa to return to the Community Centre.

11: 15 AM – Hot chocolate, snacks and social time around the campfire.

What to bring:

  • Snowshoes and/or ice cleats (eg. Yaktrax). If you don’t have a pair of snowshoes, we will have some pairs available to borrow.
  • Dress for the weather in non-bulky layers. Waterproof winter boots, snow pants, winter jacket, gloves, hat etc.
  • Sunscreen
  • Water bottle
  • Sunglasses or ski goggles
  • A backpack
  • Optional: trekking poles or ski poles with snow baskets.

Please, no dogs.

About Blahs to Ahhhs

Back for its fifth year in 2025, Blahs to Ahhhs is Trans Canada Trail’s nationwide initiative to encourage people to embrace the outdoors and rediscover the joy, connection and adventure that winter can offer. Whether it’s going for a scenic snowy hike or getting out for a quick lunchtime walk, winter trail use can be a great – and affordable – way to turn “blahs” into “ahhhs” during the coldest months of the year.

Trans Canada Trail’s Blahs to Ahhhs winter wellness campaign is generously supported by TD Bank Group through the Bank’s Corporate Citizenship platform, the TD Ready Commitment.
