Support for Trans Canada Trail included in Canada 160 Fund Announced in Budget 2026

Trans Canada Trail is pleased to be included in the new Canada 160 Fund, announced today in Budget 2026. The Canada 160 fund is the flagship initiative of a $300-million investment to mark Canada’s 160th anniversary that will support the stories, spaces, and experiences that bring Canadians together.

We’d like to thank the federal government for their continued partnership in Canada’s national trail system, which brings people and communities together from coast to coast to coast.

The Trans Canada Trail spans more than 30,000 kilometres and reaches more than 1,000 municipalities. But its true value goes beyond its scale. The Trail unites Canadians around our shared love of nature by showcasing the landscapes our country is known for.

Sustained federal investment is critical in helping local trail partners care for this shared national asset and make it more accessible and resilient for today and future generations.

“We are grateful for this investment in a Trail that brings Canadians together and supports communities across the country,” says Mathieu Roy, Chief Executive Officer of Trans Canada Trail. “We look forward to working with the government on the details and continuing discussions about the sustained support a world class trail network needs.

“We would also like to thank the thousands of Canadians who wrote letters to their MPs as part of our Not Just a Trail campaign and all of our partners and supporters who advocated on our behalf.”

The Government of Canada has always been a core supporter of the Trans Canada Trail and we are grateful to see that support continue. This continued federal partnership will act as a catalyst to continue the growth of our support from individual donors and corporate partners. The generosity of individual Canadians remains essential to keeping the Trail maintained, accessible and growing for generations to come.
