Trail Care Day Brings Together Volunteers Across the Country
On Saturday, June 1 Trans Canada Trail joined with hundreds of volunteers across the country to celebrate and care for the Trail that connects us all.
Trail Care Day, a nationwide event to mark International Trails Day, saw communities from coast to coast come together to show their love for the Trail and get their local sections ready for the summer.
From litter clean ups to invasive plant species removal to volunteer appreciation barbecues, Trail Care Day highlighted a sampling of some of the incredible volunteer work happening on the Trail from coast to coast to coast.
“The Trail Care program always provides so many fantastic examples of the incredible work volunteers do to keep our Trail safe and accessible,” said Mathieu Roy, CEO of Trans Canada Trail. “We are fortunate to work with so many dedicated local trail organizations across the country and it was an honour to celebrate International Trails Day with them. Thank you to all our volunteers and community groups who help care for our national trail system year-round. We greatly value your hard work and it has not gone unnoticed.”
Saturday’s celebration marked the culmination of the 2024 Trail Care program. Every spring, Trans Canada Trail provides hundreds of groups with Trail Care Grants, which support activities like trail clean-up and building, debris removal, art installation, maintenance and volunteer appreciation.
This year, $269,250 in Trail Care Grants were awarded to 221 trail groups across Canada to help local groups get their sections of the Trail ready for the busy spring and summer seasons.
