Cristina Toporas

Director, Governance and Board Liaison

Cristina supports strong governance and effective decision-making at Trans Canada Trail, serving as the primary liaison between the Boards of Directors of Trans Canada Trail and the Trans Canada Trail Foundation and the Chief Executive Officer and the Senior Management Team. With more than 15 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, she brings deep expertise in board governance, organizational policy, strategic planning and leadership advisory. Before joining Trans Canada Trail, Cristina held senior roles at Ovarian Cancer Canada, MS Canada, Children Believe and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, where she led organization-wide initiatives in strategy, evaluation, policy development, stakeholder engagement and operational improvement. Her background also includes managing major research funding portfolios, leading national education and training programs and supporting complex, multi-stakeholder consultations across Canada.

Cristina is an avid nature lover, hiker and aurora chaser who spends as much time as possible outdoors. She lives in Toronto with her family, right along the Martin Goodman Trail — her daily walking route and favourite section of the Trans Canada Trail.
