Caledon East 10th Anniversary Celebrations
By Walter Getman & Jan Smith-Bull
People from all walks of life came out on June 24th, 2006 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the very first Trans Canada Trail Pavilion, located in Caledon East. It was an idyllic summer day – the perfect opportunity to acknowledge the commitment and generosity of Trail supporters.
The Pavilion and Park were built in 1996 with funds from the Trans Canada Trail, the Town of Caledon, and support from local businesses and residents. Today these sites are a natural place to enjoy the beautiful pond, the wildflower and perennial gardens, the pathways and developing arboretum.
The Trans Canada Trail, represented by Sanderson Layng, President and CEO; Ron Vrancart, Vice-Chair (ON); and Dan Andrews, General Manager (ON) attended the festivities, along with the current and former mayors of Caledon, members of Caledon council, and area MP David Tilson.
To mark the milestone, four new panels were installed in the Trans Canada Trail Pavilion: a special panel marking the 10th Anniversary, a Kilometre Club panel, an Honour panel and the names of 544 metre inscription donors.
Adrian Marples, Sales and Marketing Manager of Raleigh Canada, was presented with the Kilometre Club certificate in appreciation of Raleigh’s contributions to the Trans Canada Trail.
There will be more to celebrate in the coming year, with the completion of a bridge over the five lanes of Highway 10, providing a safe passage for Trail users and linking the west and centre portions of the Caledon Trailway.

This circle of influential and visionary leaders will help us connect the Trail and all Canadians.
The Trail is within 30 minutes of over 80% of Canadians and runs through or near 1,000 communities.
This summer, double your gift to the Trail! The Richardson Foundation will match your donation until August 15th, 2015!
