Explore Trans Canada Trail’s 2024-25 Annual Report

Trans Canada Trail is excited to share its 2024-25 annual report. This report provides a comprehensive overview of Trans Canada Trail’s activities, achievements and impact from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025.

As a national charitable organization, we are proud to showcase the collective efforts of our staff, board members and committees, and donors and partners. Together, we are advancing a shared vision of an excellent trail system that connects Canadians to nature.

“Our team is driven by a deep sense of responsibility, not only to those who fund our work, but to every Canadian who knows the value of time on a trail,” says Mathieu Roy, Chief Executive Officer of Trans Canada Trail. “It is a privilege to steward a national legacy like the Trans Canada Trail and over the last year, guided by the priorities set out in our strategic plan, we made meaningful progress in doing so.”

A year of impact

Trans Canada Trail has turned purpose into progress, collaborating with partners across the country to steward and strengthen Canada’s nationwide trail system. This mission is brought to life through action in four strategic areas: developing a lasting trail for future generations, fostering a thriving Canadian trail sector, facilitating great outdoor experiences, and connecting communities across Canada

The results speak for themselves — a growing network, deeper community engagement, and millions of people finding connection, joy and wellness along the Trans Canada Trail. Some highlights include:

  • $11.4 million invested to advance Trans Canada Trail’s mission across the country
  • $6.4 million in funding directed to local trails and the broader trail sector
  • More than 700 kilometres added to the Trans Canada Trail network
  • 145 million total visits recorded on the Trans Canada Trail
  • 87% of Canadians reporting that trails add value to their communities and improve quality of life

The power of philanthropy

Trans Canada Trail’s work is made possible by the contributions of generous donors and partners. Their commitment is a direct investment in the Trail’s future and helps ensure it remains safe, connected and accessible for generations to come.

The 2024-25 year saw continued support from the dedicated community who helps support the Trail. That community includes new corporate partners like Toyota Canada as well as support from long-standing partnerships with organizations like Teck and Esri Canada.

The generosity of individuals and foundations also plays a crucial role in supporting Trans Cananda Trail’s work. The 2024-25 annual report highlights a legacy gift to honour the memory of long-time supporter Edward Balon, as well as continued support from the Joan and Clifford Hatch Foundation and our TrailKeepers: monthly donors who give to ensure that the Trail stays safe and accessible for generations to come.

During the past year, Trans Canada Trail was also proud to be accredited by Imagine Canada’s Standards Program, demonstrating a commitment to accountability, governance, transparency and best practice in philanthropy.
