On July 7, staff from Trans Canada Trail and the Toronto production of Come From Away came together to celebrate connection, kindness and a uniquely Canadian experience. Passersby were treated to a special performance at Sir Casimir Gzowski Park, along the Waterfront TrailMartin Goodman Trail, a section of the Trans Canada Trail.

The event kicked off with opening remarks from Meghan Reddick, Chief Communications and Marketing Officer, Trans Canada Trail, followed by inspiring performances from Come From Away cast members Cailin Stadnyk, Bob McAlpine and Valerie Li.  Attendees also heard from MP Karim Bardeesy and MPP Alexa Gilmour; musician and event visionary Levon Ickhhanian, who led the fundraiser; and Irene Sankoff, co-creator of the award-winning musical.

After the performance, Come From Away cast members joined Trans Canada Trail staff and other attendees on a trail walk, where they explored a lovely waterfront section of the nearly 30,000-kilometre Trail.

“There was a real sense of connection in the air, the kind that gives you chills,” said Meghan Reddick. “Hearing the music from Come From Away live, surrounded by community on the Trans Canada Trail, was incredibly moving. This event wasn’t just a fundraiser celebration; it was a reminder of the kindness and connection that live at the heart of both the show and the Trail. We’re so grateful to the cast, crew and creators for their support and for walking alongside us to help build a more connected Canada.”

An inaugural donation to Trans Canada Trail’s Connected Canada fund

The celebration also recognized a meaningful contribution from the Come From Away cast and crew: the inaugural donation made to Trans Canada Trail’s Connected Canada fund. The Connected Canada fund helps to maintain, protect and strengthen the Trans Canada Trail – and the incredible connections it brings to communities across the country – from coast to coast to coast.

As part of their multi-year run in Toronto, the Come From Away cast and crew raised funds for Canadian charities through its “Come From Kindness” program, including a gift to Trans Canada Trail. We’re truly grateful for the support from Levon Ichkhanian, the musical contractor, who championed fundraising efforts for the Trail.
