Trails have become increasingly impacted by extreme weather and other effects of climate change. Trans Canada Trail helps communities protect, restore and future-proof Canada’s nationwide trail system by focusing on nature-based solutions, like tree planting and invasive species removal, and offering supports for designing, adapting and building sustainable trails. We work with partners across the country to keep trails safe and resilient for today and future generations. 

Services and Supports

Trans Canada Trail provides a variety of services to support climate sustainability and nature across the trail sector, including: 

  • Planning and funding for nature-based and adaptation projects   
  • Disaster relief and emergency repairs after floods, wildfires and storms 
  • Identifying ecologically significant Trail corridors 
  • Supporting local efforts to enhance and maintain biodiversity 
  • Guidance on greenway development and active transportation principles 
  • Sharing best practices and technical advice

Provides rapid-response funding to repair and restore sections of the Trail damaged by natural disasters such as floods, wildfires, and storms. Apply through the Trail Catalyst Fund.
