Trail profile: City of Sudbury Trail – Bell Park Walkway

wooden walkway over body of water with blue skies and forest behind

This gem is situated just south of downtown Sudbury, Ontario, in the popular Bell Park. It runs for just under two kilometres and has parking lots and access points at both Elizabeth Street and Ramsey Lake Road. Enjoy exceptional waterfront views on this newly improved walkway.

What we love about this Trail section

• It’s in close proximity to Science North, Grace Hartman Ampitheatre, several beaches and a playground.

• It offers amazing views of Ramsey Lake.

• It’s a barrier-free option for walking and rolling, right in Sudbury.

A Trans Canada Trail section in Bell Park

Bell Park is named for William J. Bell, a significant figure in Sudbury’s lumber industry in the late 19th century. William J. Bell donated his estate land to the City of Sudbury upon his death, and part of that land is now the park.

A popular destination just south of downtown Sudbury, Bell Park is the site of several events and festivals year-round. It’s also home to a playground and the Grace Hartman Ampitheatre, plus access to Science North, an extensive science centre for the whole family.

Also in Bell Park, you’ll find an 18-foot-tall monument to Sudbury’s mining history, created by artist Timothy P. Schmalz. And, fun fact: Bell Park is the site of Sudbury’s 10 millionth tree planted as part of its regreening program, which started in 1978!

Lake views abound

The City of Sudbury Trail – Bell Park Walkway follows the shoreline of Ramsey Lake, linking to the City of Sudbury – Ramsey Lake Trail on one end and the City of Sudbury – Junction Creek Waterway Park on the other. Walk along the water and take in incredible views, keeping an eye out for bird species along the way. The trail includes paved and boardwalk sections, appropriate for walking or rolling.

Beach time!

For those heading out on the Trail in the warmer months, Bell Park Walkway features several beach access points directly off the trail, including a supervised beach area, so you can stop for some beach time along the way. The main beach access point can be found near the Elizabeth Street parking lot. The park offers a number of accessibility features, including a Mobi chair and accessible washrooms.
