Trail Care Event: Newfoundland T’Railway Conception Bay South
Celebrating International Trails Day at Conception Bay South
On June 1 – when Trail Care Day was celebrated in several spots across Canada – the Newfoundland T’Railway Council hosted a celebration in Conception Bay South. The event took place at the Seal Cove staging area along the Trail.
Traversing the Trail on foot or wheels
Despite inclement weather, a large group convened at the Seal Cover Staging Area to enjoy the day and the planned ride along the trail to Avondale. Coffee, donuts and welcome speeches kicked off the event. Everyone was welcome to walk along the trail or meet the larger group at the train station community centre on the Trail in Avondale. To complete the event, the group reconvened in Seal Cove.
In Avondale, participants enjoyed a celebratory barbecue. Darrin Bent, Mayor of Conception Bay South, was in attendance, along with Ken McDonald, the MP for the area, and Paul Connors, Councillor at Large, town of Conception Bay South.
Angela Morin, Trans Canada Trail’s Manager, Infrastructure and Signage, was also present and spoke on behalf of the organization.
Approximately 50 people gathered to celebrate International Trails Day.
Cleaning up a section of the T’Railway
In preparation for the celebration, another section of the T’Railway was cleaned up with heavy machinery.
