Empowering trail stewards across Canada

 

Volunteers play a crucial role in keeping the Trail welcoming and well maintained in every season. Trans Canada Trail offers grants and resources to local groups to support volunteer-led projects, offer training to existing volunteers and expand volunteer networks. These supports not only contribute to the ongoing upkeep of Canada’s nationwide trail system; they also promote volunteerism and community building across the country.  

Services and Supports

 

Trans Canada Trail provides a variety of services to support volunteerism across the trail sector, including: 

  • Funding for volunteer-led minor maintenance projects, organizational capacity building, and other volunteer initiatives 
  • Support for volunteer recruitment, retention and appreciation 
  • Storytelling and recognition to support volunteer impact

Funding

Trail Care Grants 

Offers funding for seasonal cleanup and small-scale maintenance projects. This grant also encourages community and volunteer involvement through trail care events, particularly in the spring.

Capacity Building Fund 

The Designed to support Trans Canada Trail volunteer groups and organizations build on and/or develop internal capacity to recruit, onboard and manage board members or volunteers to ensure the long-term sustainability and integrity of the organization.

Volunteer Recognition Grant 

Celebrates and honors the dedication of volunteers on the Trail. It supports having a small recognition event or activity for a long-term volunteer, as well as a small bench plaque made in their honour.
