Edmundston, NB Trail Pavilion opening celebration
June 20th, 2008
On Thursday June 19, New Brunswick’s fourth Trans Canada Trail pavilion was unveiled at the Fraser Marina in downtown Edmundston. Over 200 donors were recognized for their contribution to the Trail.
Over 30 people participated in this event including Restigouche/Madawaska Member of Parliament Jean-Claude D’Amours, MLA Madeleine Dubé, J. Denys Bourque, President of the Société d’amenagement de la riviére Madawaska et du lac Témiscouata and Jean-Marie Cyr, Zone Director for New Brunswick Trails Council Inc.
In 1999, École Cormier set out to raise enough money to purchase a metre of trail to represent each province and territory: the only missing pavilion inscription out of the 13 was in their hometown pavilion, which now holds the name of École Cormier. Teachers Patricia Thibodeau and Gaétan Martin were on hand to finally see this happen.

From left to right: City Councillor Denis Pelletier; Jean-Claude D'Amours, MP for Madawaska-Restigouche; Madeleine Dubé, MLA for Edmundston-Saint-Basile; Denys Bourque, Co-President of SARMLT; Richard Senécal, Coordinator, Conseil québécois du sentier Transcanadien and Jane Murphy, Regional Coordinator, Trans Canada Trail.

Any idea what the total number of people was that bought meters of the trans can trail? Must be tons! I knew several people that bought a meter, but didn’t get around to it myself.

100,000+ and most are multiple donors. Those who symbolically purchase metres are recognized in the pavilion of their choice. There are 86 pavilions across the country.
