About the role
Position: French Copywriter & Translator
Position Type: Full-time, 1-year contract (maternity leave replacement)
Reports to: Manager, Marketing Production
Start Date: As early as April 30, 2025
Location: Remote from home, resident in Canada
The French Copywriter & Translator supports and reports to the Manager, Marketing Production, and collaborates closely with all members of the Communications & Marketing team. This position deals with urgent requests while balancing long-term projects.
The French Copywriter & Translator will be responsible for all content localization efforts in Canada, including writing, editing, proofreading, translating and adapting all communications and marketing materials into French. Further, it’s expected that the position delivers, evaluates and enhances francophone communication, and provides support to all Trans Canada Trail teams on translation of various communications and marketing materials, campaigns, webinars and social media.
The ideal candidate resides in Quebec and has a full understanding of Quebec francophone culture and marketing nuances. This individual must be proficient in French and English (must possess superior oral and written French language skills), has a can-do attitude and learns new systems and processes quickly. The ideal candidate thrives on challenges, embraces responsibilities, is detail-oriented and seeks an opportunity to support a wide range of marketing projects.
This position is open only to residents of Canada, who are eligible to work in Canada.
Key responsibilities
- Support the development and enhancement of impactful francophone content strategies and monitors the effectiveness of ongoing activities.
- Translates internal and external Trans Canada Trail content into French and ensures simultaneous delivery of content in both official languages.
- Proofreads and edits a wide range of French communications for accuracy, spelling, grammar, idiom accuracy, style consistency, tone, flow and comprehension.
- English/French comparative review of content prior to submitting texts for publishing to ensure technical and linguistic quality.
- Manages the workload of the translations and coordinates with internal clients and freelancers to meet deadlines.
- Reviews translations submitted by freelancers and suppliers to ensure highest linguistic accuracy and consistency in all documents.
- Maintains the French terminology database/translation memory and contributes to the standardization of terminology within Trans Canada Trail while maintaining consistency with the terminology in use in international and national relevant sectors.
- Maintains translation tools and manages associated support contracts.
- Keep abreast of emerging linguistic trends related to Trans Canada Trail’s activities and mandate.
- Pursues equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility in overall communication.
- Supports branding and communications for events and resources.
- Contributes to communication and marketing strategies including workback plans and promotional campaigns.
- Actively participates in meetings, work sessions, committees and other work groups, workshops or training sessions, as well as special Trans Canada Trail events.
Carries out other projects, mandates and tasks related to Trans Canada Trail’s mission, as required.
Desired experience and qualifications
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role
- Mandatory: Bilingual (English and French) with French language skills at the superior level
- Excellent project management skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Demonstrates sound judgment and problem-solving skills
- Well-organized with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft 365
- Knowledge of Monday.com, WordPress and LogiTerm translation tool an asset
- Experience working at a charitable organization an asset
Compensation package
We offer a compensation package that includes:
- Hiring salary of $58,000 per year
- Flexible work location (within Canada) and hours of work
