Government of Canada announces $30 million in funding for The Great Trail
Trans Canada Trail (TCT) is pleased to announce that the Government of Canada will invest $30 million in Trail development over the next four years. The funding announcement was made on September 4, 2018, in Ottawa by the Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change.
This announcement comes one year after TCT celebrated the cross-Canada connection of The Great Trail.
“Although we celebrated the extraordinary achievement of cross-Canada connection in 2017, my fellow board members and I know that the journey continues,” says Neil Yeates, Chair of the TCT Board of Directors. “Though connecting the Trail was ambitious, we must now protect it and encourage its development so that future generations can discover it, use it and treasure it.”

Funds provided through the contribution agreement will fuel our new strategic direction. The three pillars of our strategic plan are:
- Protect and progress the legacy of the Trail to increase usage
- Ensure the integrity of the Trail system to improve the user experience
- Champion the Trail to create awareness and increase usage

Attendees at the announcement in Ottawa were also encouraged to get involved in The Great Trail Treasure Hunt, a cross-Canada contest where outdoor adventurers can find treasure boxes along 100 sections of the Trail across Canada.
We look forward to collaborating with our partners at Parks Canada over the next four years, and we hope for the continued support of individuals, governments and corporations as we work to preserve and improve The Great Trail – Canada’s national Trail.
