THE BIG IDEA

  • Trans Canada Trail’s story is one of dreamers and doers. Albertan Bill Pratt and Quebecker Pierre Camu envisioned a coast-to-coast-to-coast trail connecting Canadians to nature and to one another at human speed. 
  • Canada 125 seed funding of $580,000.
  • On December 14, 1992, Trans Canada Trail was established as a registered charity.

1st PRESIDENT & CEO

  • John Bellini was Trans Canada Trail’s first President & CEO. From 1992 to 2006, John played an instrumental role in developing our national trail. He was the driving force behind the connection of the first 18,000 km of the Trans Canada Trail. 

1st BOARD CHAIR

  • Trans Canada Trail co-founder, Dr. Pierre Camu was appointed as Chair of the Trans Canada Trail Board of Directors. Dr. Camu’s passion for geography, transportation and communications helped forge the way for the Trail.
