Trail Care Event: Le P’tit Train du Nord, Gare de Prévost
A real community effort cleaning up the Parc linéaire Le P’tit Train du Nord
On May 31, at the Gare de Prévost section of the Parc linéaire Le P’tit Train du Nord, at kilometre 14, the community came together for a trail cleanup event. Volunteers, Le P’tit Train du Nord patrollers, and employees from both the trail organization and from Trans Canada Trail joined forces. Approximately 20 to 25 people were present.
Volunteers picked up garbage and cleaned debris along the Trail in and around the city of Prévost. Some people also set off by bicycle and went farther afield to clean up.
Stéphanie Lauzon from la Corporation du Parc linéaire Le P’tit Train du Nord spoke about the event, highlighting the dedication of the trail patrollers and volunteers. Matt Ainsley, Trans Canada Trail’s Manager, Corporate Partnerships, also spoke about the importance of Le P’tit Train du Nord, both for the region and for visitors.
A selection of food and drink was served at the station platform along the Trail. Special thanks to CLIF bar for providing energy bars at the event and to Columbia Sportswear for generously providing T-shirts for volunteers and team members.
Overall, it was a lovely sun-filled event!
Creating connections and adding a festive touch to Trail Care events
Stéphanie Lauzon, operations coordinator at la Corporation du Parc linéaire Le P’tit Train du Nord, says, “As a nonprofit organization, we work with limited funds. The Trail Care Grant allowed us to provide food and refreshments, bringing together our volunteers and staff, building connections and creating a festive atmosphere.” She continues, “Combining a Trail cleanup day with a festive moment brings people together, makes the task at hand more fun for everyone, and encourages people to come back next year!”
The corporation also encouraged an emerging artist by hiring a young photographer from the community to document the event.
VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Stéphanie Lauzon is the recently appointed Operations Coordinator and Patrol Coordinator with Le P’tit Train du Nord. She would like to highlight that this Trail Care event was a first for her and for four new Trail Patrollers, and it was a great kick-off to the summer season!
