Trail Care Event: Le P’tit Train du Nord, Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts
Cleaning up several kilometres of the Trail in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts
On August 8, volunteers, Trans Canada Trail staff, patrollers and staff from Parc linéaire Le P’tit Train du Nord, the MRC des Laurentides and the town of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts brought the community together for a common cause. The Parc linéaire Le P’tit Train du Nord’s team members showed remarkable energy and dedication to make the day a resounding success.
Stéphanie Lauzon, Director of Operations at Parc linéaire Le P’tit Train du Nord Corporation, says: “We were honoured to welcome Mr. Frédéric Broué, Mayor of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, and Mr. Marc L’Heureux, Prefect of the MRC des Laurentides. Their presence and support were invaluable assets, contributing significantly to the achievement of our objectives and the strengthening of ties within our community.”
Charles-André Roy, Trans Canada Trail’s Director, Technology, and Lesley Johnson, our Manager, GIS, spoke on behalf of Trans Canada Trail, welcoming participants to the event. Marilyne Lortie from the Parc linéaire Le P’tit Train du Nord also spoke at the event.
Participants covered the Trail on foot and by bike, clearing debris and picking up trash. They covered a total of 40 kilometres: 20 kilometres north and south from the meeting point in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts.
Lunch, kiosks and trail information
At the old train station in Sainte-Agathe, now an info centre for the P’tit Train du Nord, information kiosks were set up, including a booth from Trans Canada Trail. Bich-Anh Nguyen, Trans Canada Trail’s Manager, Marketing Production, says, “I really enjoyed being at the info kiosk and chatting with volunteers and passers-by. People were interested in the Trans Canada Trail and Trail Care Day, and the enthusiasm of the volunteers and patrollers was quite inspiring! What a great way to spread the word and support trails in the community.”
Thank you to generous Trail Care sponsors and community members
Trail Care events like the August 8 P’tit Train du Nord event were made possible through the generous support of Columbia Sportswear and Toyota Canada. In addition, to encourage trail users to visit more sections of the Trail, VIA Rail and Trans Canada Trail held a giveaway contest at the event. Two lucky winners each received a $250 travel voucher for VIA Rail.
A dedicated group of volunteers and patrollers along the Trail
The Parc linéaire Le P’tit Train du Nord is maintained by a dedicated community of volunteers and staff members. As part of the Trail Care event, the Parc linéaire Le P’tit Train du Nord also held a special event for its patrollers.
