Position Type: Full-time, 1-year contract
Location: Remote from home, resident in Canada

Reports to: Director, Development
Start date: As soon as possible

This is a fantastic opportunity to join Trans Canada Trail! The Manager, Donor Relations is an important role within the Philanthropy team, leading and executing strategies that engage our donors and ensure they understand the critical impact they are having on the Trans Canada Trail. The Manager, Donor Relations ensures the cultivation and stewardship of donor relationships through proposal development, relationship management, and stewardship initiatives, and events. The Manager, Donor Relations is responsible for creating and implementing plans and strategies to improve donor retention, increase donor engagement, and broaden our base of support.

Reporting to the Director, Development the Manager, Donor Relations will work closely with the entire Trans Canada Trail team to support the strategic goals and objectives of the organization.

This position is open only to residents of Canada, who are eligible to work in Canada. 


Key responsibilities
  • Prepare and deliver high quality proposals for leadership prospects and donors
  • Develop and write grant proposals to Foundations and other grant-making organizations, persuasively communicating the organization’s mission and programs to potential funders
  • Provide accountability to donors on the use of their funds as well as their measured impact through reporting processes
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of donor stewardship matrix in accordance with stewardship best-practices
  • Support the development and management of stewardship events including the creation of plans and budgets to increase engagement and grow long term loyalty.
  • Collaborate with the Communications & Marketing team in the development and implementation of strategic donor communications through channels like social media, Annual Report, Annual Giving campaigns, gift acknowledgments, web pages, invitations, and press releases
  • Act as primary organizational contact for Foundation donors, and coordinating donor communication with / from other departments, as needed
  • Track and measure donor activity and engagement in database
  • Ensure stewardship is built into the organization’s existing fundraising campaigns and events
  • Support Philanthropy team priorities to maximize revenue opportunities
  • Support in the process of issuing organizational acknowledgment, tax receipting, thank you letters, and pledge reminders

Knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Exceptional writing skills with passion for donor-centric communication and fundraising
  • Effective communication style with the ability to present complex information into a simple and compelling message for maximum clarity, understanding, and impact
  • Previous experience in developing, managing, and implementing successful fundraising programs and events.
  • Proven ability to coordinate projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Highly organized with ability to meet deadlines
  • Detail and results-oriented, creative, and flexible
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills
  • Ability to communicate the values and programs of Trans Canada Trail in a way that lets donors understand how their support makes a difference
  • Team player, comfortable working in a decentralized staff model
  • Self-starter – ability to work independently
  • Outstanding organizational ability, including capacity to multi-task

Desired experience and qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in writing, English or equivalent experience or post-secondary education
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience, preferably in the charitable sector
  • Experience working as part of a fundraising team
  • Advanced writing skills with proven experience writing compelling proposals and communicating donor impact
  • Strong knowledge of donor relations and stewardship best practices; membership or involvement in the Association of Donor Relations Professionals is an asset
  • Proficiency and previous hands-on experience with CRMs (Salesforce)
  • Experience working with a not-for-profit organization is an asset
  • Bilingual (French/English)

Compensation package

We offer a compensation package that includes:

  • Hiring salary of $83,300 per year
  • Flexible work location (within Canada) and hours of work
  • Generous paid vacation, holidays and sick leave
