About the role

Position: Director, Development (Major Gifts & Campaign)

Location: Remote from home, resident in Canada

The Director, Development (Major Gifts & Campaign) is a critical leadership position within our Philanthropy team, charged with driving strategy, building meaningful donor and volunteer relationships, and achieving campaign success. This individual will lead the development and execution of our major gifts strategy, oversee campaign deliverables, and manage a talented team of philanthropy professionals. 

 This position is open only to residents of Canada, who are eligible to work in Canada. 


Key responsibilities
  • Major Gifts Strategy: Develop and implement a robust major gifts fundraising strategy to meet and exceed revenue targets. 
  • Campaign Leadership: 
    • Manage and coordinate activities and engagement of the Campaign Cabinet. 
    • Drive the achievement of the major gifts portion of campaign goals, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. 
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of four philanthropy professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture. 
  • Donor Relationship Management: Build, nurture, and sustain relationships with a select portfolio of major gift donors, ensuring exceptional stewardship and donor engagement. 
  • Data and Reporting: Oversee donor pipeline development, utilize CRM tools to track donor activity, and provide regular campaign performance updates to senior leadership and stakeholders. 
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams (communications, programs, and finance) to align fundraising strategies with organizational priorities. 
  • Event Participation: Represent the organization at donor cultivation events, campaign launches, and other key engagements to build visibility and strengthen relationships. 

Desired experience, knowledge, skills and qualifications
  • Experience: 
    • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in major gift fundraising and campaign management, preferably within the non-profit sector. 
    • Proven success in closing five- and six-figure gifts. 
    • Experience working with Campaign Cabinets or volunteer leadership committees. 
  • Leadership: Strong team management skills with experience leading remote or geographically dispersed teams. 
  • Donor Relations: Exceptional relationship management skills with a track record of cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding high-net-worth donors. 
  • Technical Skills: 
    • Proficiency in donor management systems (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge) and CRM tools. 
    • Ability to analyze data and generate actionable insights for fundraising strategies. 
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling proposals and reports. 
  • Other: 
    • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines. 
    • Willingness to travel occasionally for donor meetings and events. 
    • Bilingualism (English and French) is preferred. 

Compensation package

We offer a compensation package that includes:

  • Hiring salary of $105,000-$110,000 per year
  • Contributions to group RRSP
