In this episode of Trail Talk Live, we discuss the environmental impacts of tourism and how a restorative approach could yield many benefits.
Tourism is evolving. Many are shifting away from impersonal commerce-oriented spaces filled with tourists focused on extracting entertainment and towards a regenerative approach that welcomes guests to participate in authentic experiences. Much of this shift is towards sustainable experiences that limit impact on the environment. This raises a growing concern for the trail community as more tourists on a trail can cause environmental damage through litter and damage to ecosystems as people tromp off the path. How can trails take sustainability one step further by not only maintaining but restoring and enhancing the ecosystem and economy?
