Celebrating our successes: Global impact of the TCT recognized at international conference

The local and global benefits of the Trans Canada Trail were recently recognized at the 21st American Trails International Trails Symposium in Phoenix. TCT was awarded the International Trails Award Honorable Mention.

The award was presented on April 16 to TCT’s National Director of Trail, Jane Murphy, by Bob Searns, President of the American Trails Association.

The new International Trails Award recognizes projects or partnerships outside the United States that demonstrate outstanding planning, design or implementation, and which enhance the worldwide trails’ movement. Award winners have successfully addressed challenges such as planning, design, public participation, sustainability, economic benefits, promotion and eco-tourism, and have provided benefits to the local and global communities.

This is the first year that the symposium has recognized international trail organizations. Canada, South Africa, Australia, South Korea, France and China, among others, were represented at the conference, which featured workshops, seminars, panel discussions and nationally prominent speakers.

TCT is honoured to have been recognized by the American Trails organization.
