Fredericton Festivities Report

Despite a downpour, the Trans Canada Trail Pavilion Panel unveiling was held on Saturday, Sept. 15 in Fredericton. A crowd of over 100 donors and family members showed up to view the 2 new panels installed in the pavilion.

Fredericton Mayor Brad Woodside spoke to the significance of the trail in the City and the importance that many of the residents place on this invaluable resource. President of The Fredericton Trails Coalition, Doreen Armstrong, and President Emeritus of the New Brunswick Trails Council, David Peterson, spoke about a significant memorial placed in the pavilion this year. Bill Thorpe, “Father of the Fredericton Trails” passed away in December of 2006 and a dedication was made to recognize his contribution to the trail world and the passion he maintained throughout his quest for trail development in the City. James Clark, National Trail Director, thanked all those who donated and reiterated that their contribution to the Trans Canada Trail was helping to build a legacy for future generations. A reception followed the ceremony at the Fredericton Crowne Plaza.
