Kawartha Trail to add 44 km to TCT in Ontario

Dan Andrews, General Manager of Trans Canada Trail Ontario, formally presented the national designation to Kawartha Trans Canada Trail Association president Al MacPherson and his team. The event was held on Wednesday, April 2nd at 2:00 pm at the Pigeon River Access point-bridge/trail.

Dan Andrews (TCTO) and Al MacPherson (Kawartha TCTA).

This signals the Kawartha Trail’s official joining of the TCT. The trail group will now begin construction of the trail which will run along an abandoned rail corridor the length of the Kawartha Lakes, from the boundary of Peterborough County/City of Kawartha Lakes to the City of Kawartha Lakes/Durham County.

“The Kawartha Trans Canada Trail is a dozen years in the making, largely through the efforts of very dedicated and patient local volunteers,” Mr. Andrews said. “This is a major step forward towards completing the trail through the area and it will be worth the wait, not only for Kawartha Lakes’ citizens, but also for the 32+ million Canadians they are planning to invite. That’s what happens when a community completes another section of the world’s longest recreational trail – all Canadians are invited to visit and explore all that Kawartha Lakes has to offer.”
