Deborah MacPherson

Deborah MacPherson is a former partner and Business Unit Leader at KPMG with an impressive career in financial management, governance, and strategic leadership. She has extensive experience in the non-profit and charitable sectors, having served on the boards of organizations such as YWCA, Special Olympics Alberta, the Alberta 2030 Commonwealth Games and industry boards such as Telefilm Canada and ApartmentLove.

Deborah holds an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors and completed the Directors Education Program through the Rotman School of Management. Additionally, she is a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta (FCPA, FCA) and holds advanced certificates in Family Business Governance from STEP. Her work has also involved advising clients on estate planning, charitable giving, and land donations, making her uniquely positioned to contribute to the Trans Canada Trail’s mission.

A passionate advocate for the outdoors, Deborah is an avid cyclist, runner, and hiker who has explored the Trans Canada Trail in every province. As a resident of Alberta, she regularly enjoys the Rocky Mountain Legacy Trail between Canmore and Banff. She believes deeply in the power of nature to connect people and provide solace and is excited to help steward this national treasure for future generations.

Deborah joined the Trans Canada Trail Board in 2024.
