School’s Out! Six Family Fun Summer Activity Ideas

The school year has come to a close for millions of students across the country and that means it’s a great time for fun family activities on the Trans Canada Trail! Here are six ideas for exploring the Trail together in new ways.

1) Go on a Trail treasure hunt

See if you can spot any – or all! – of the 12 items on this Trail Treasure Hunt.

2) Picture perfect

The Trail is full of eye-catching scenery, so it’s the perfect place to take a photo to keep as a souvenir of the feel-good time you spent in nature.

3) Create a signature snack

Pick some favourite nuts, seeds, dried fruit and special treats and combine them to create your family’s special blend of Trail Mix that will help fuel your outdoor adventures.

4) Artist for a day

When you head out on a Trail walk, pack a notebook and some pencils, markers or crayons. Once you see something that makes you say WOW, pause for a sketching break. Draw a picture of the scene and take it home as reminder of the time you spent on the Trail!

5) Spot colours on the Trail

There are so many colourful things to spot on the Trans Canada Trail! Pick a section of the Trail to explore and then see if you can find things that match each of these colours.

6) A to Z

Work your way through the alphabet, from A to Z, with each person naming something they spot on the Trail that begins with that letter.

Whatever you choose to do, have fun and stay safe on your Trail adventures this summer!
