Trail Profile: Sentier Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail
Explore the 72-kilometre Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail, running from Rigaud, Quebec, to the outskirts of Ottawa by way of the Eastern Ontario counties of Prescott and Russell. This Trail section is a new addition to the Trans Canada Trail network, and we extend a warm welcome to the local trail group and to everyone who uses it!
What we love about this Trail section
• It’s a dedicated trail built on a former railbed, which means it’s wide and traffic-free!
• It passes by renowned vineyards and breweries in Eastern Ontario.
• E-bike rentals are available at three stations adjacent to the trail.
An Eastern Ontario extravaganza
Head out on the Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail from the edge of Western Quebec through Eastern Ontario, running south of the Ottawa River through rural areas, towns and villages en route before concluding just west of Ottawa. Built on a former railbed, this gravel trail is relatively flat and great for walking, jogging and cycling in the warmer months. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are permitted in the winter but note that the trail is used by a snowmobile club in the colder months.
Find great food and drink options just off the trail
The Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail passes through several towns and villages that offer delectable food and drinks, including Vankleek Hill, home of Beau’s Brewery, and Hammond, home to Broken Stick Brewing Company. You’ll also find vineyards in the area, if wine is more your thing. The trail continues to Plantagenet and Alfred – the self-proclaimed French fry capital of the world – and Bourget, continuing westward to Hammond, Ontario.
E-bike exploration: cycling trail fun!
Explore the Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail by e-bike! Three rental stations are available in Bourget, Plantagenet and Vankleek Hill, just off the trail – and conveniently located at food and drink spots including the renowned Beau’s Brewery. Pick up your e-bike and hit the trail, taking a break at one of six rest areas along the way.
