Trans Canada Trail Training

Supporting
Trail Stewards

Partnering closely with community groups, our training initiative delivers immersive workshops, complete curriculum, and expert instruction, providing participants with practical experience in trail stewardship.

Trail Crew Training Workshops

Delivered in partnership with a community group, the Trail Crew Training workshops provide a unique and immersive opportunity to learn and experience trail stewardship as an introduction to the trail sector. With trail use increasing across the country and demand for workers following suit, the trail sector offers exciting and varied career opportunities in trail planning, building and stewardship, as well as in navigation, education, communications, tourism and more. Participants gain valuable insights into sustainable trail design, effective maintenance practices, and the importance of protecting the natural environment.

Workshops are flexible and are adapted to meet the needs of the participants, the landscape and the project.

Trail Crew Training Curriculum and Instructor Guide

To support the Trail Crew Training workshops, we have created a Trail Crew Training Curriculum and Instructor Guide for the workshop facilitator. This resource is designed to provide a tailored experience for the group’s needs, location and hands-on project. The content, developed in consultation with experienced trail builders and instructors, contains best practices in trail stewardship and hands-on experiences for participants.

Outland Youth Employment Program

As part of our partnership with Outland Youth Employment Program (OYEP), a six-week program for Indigenous high school students that focuses on land-based training and work experiences, we offer a weeklong Trail Crew Training experience, in which youth learn in the field, constructing trails, boardwalks and picnic tables. Upon completion, they receive a certificate in Trail Crew Training.
