This is a fantastic opportunity to join Trans Canada Trail! The Director of Information Management (IM) and Information Technology (IT) is a strategic leader responsible for transforming the organization’s technology and information landscape. This role will establish a strong foundation for information management and technology systems, enabling the organization to operate more efficiently, collaboratively, and securely.

The Director will lead critical initiatives including the development of a document and database management system, the administration of Salesforce CRM, a cohesive data strategy, and the infrastructure for an enhanced organizational website. This role involves managing a small team, collaborating with two external providers (IT services and Salesforce CRM), and driving innovative solutions to achieve the organization’s strategic objectives.

 This position is open only to residents of Canada, who are eligible to work in Canada. 


Key responsibilities
  • Information Management and Document System Development
    • Develop a robust information management structure leveraging SharePoint and Microsoft 365.
    • Design and implement a digital document library and retrieval system by leveraging file metadata, and other relevant information.
    • Establish SharePoint security protocols on a role-based basis.
    • Create a SharePoint structure aligned with organizational themes/initiatives and integrated with MS Teams channels to streamline collaboration and focus on version control for documents.
  • CRM Optimization
    • Ongoing assessment of CRM performance aligned with organizational needs and objectives.
    • Work with the CFO to develop a cohesive and sustainable CRM strategy to consolidate efforts across the organization.
    • Provide training and guidance to staff to ensure effective use and collaboration through CRM.
  • Data Strategy Leadership
    • Develop a comprehensive and agile data strategy that is independent of a single system.
    • Integrate existing tools (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Monday.com, Salesforce, MS365) to form a connected, central solution.
    • Identify opportunities to streamline data management while maintaining flexibility and resilience in organizational systems.
  • Website Infrastructure and Revamp
    • Support the development of the organization’s website by creating an IT project roadmap, consulting with technology vendors and suppliers, and defining timing and pricing options.
    • Ensure the website infrastructure supports the Communications and Marketing strategy, such as optimized functionality, user experience, and serves as a critical organizational asset.
  • GIS Team Oversight and Trail User Experience Enhancement
    • Supervise the GIS team and collaborate to develop innovative tools for trail users, such as interactive web maps for trip planning and obtaining key trail information.
    • Enhance digital user experiences for stakeholders and trail users.
  • Technology Oversight and Organizational Support
    • Monitor the organization’s software and hardware systems and collaborate with third-party providers to ensure optimal performance.
    • Assess staffing, resources, and organizational needs for long-term growth in IM and IT support for local trail groups.
    • Provide strategic guidance on IT infrastructure and planning for future growth.
  • AI Initiative Leadership
    • Lead the organization’s AI initiative by developing a comprehensive roadmap and strategy.
    • Identify opportunities to leverage AI for operational efficiencies and enhancing the trail user experience.
    • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to implement AI-driven solutions that align with organizational goals.

Desired experience, knowledge, skills and qualifications
  • Required Skills and Experience
    • Proven ability to translate strategic vision into operational execution.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 administration and SharePoint system design and implementation and DBMS. This must be demonstrated.
    • Experience with CRM systems, preferably Salesforce, including auditing and training.
    • Expertise in data strategy development, system integration, and central solution design.
    • Project management skills to lead website infrastructure and redevelopment projects.
    • Strong understanding of security protocols and sensitive data management.
    • Experience managing IT and IM teams, and collaborating with third-party providers.
    • Strong communication skills and ability to provide clear guidance and training. 
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Knowledge of GIS systems and web mapping tools.
    • Experience in non-profit or trail-related organizations.
    • Familiarity with QuickBooks Online, Monday.com, and other related tools for efficiencies.
    • Bilingualism is preferred

Compensation package

We offer a compensation package that includes:

  • Hiring salary starting at $97,000 per year
