The Joys of Winter in Charlevoix: Baie-Saint-Paul
We’re continuing our deep dive into the Charlevoix region of Quebec, an adventure-lover’s paradise for all things outdoor and nature, year-round!
Long celebrated as a playground for hiking and nature enthusiasts, Charlevoix is located along the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River, east of Quebec City. Classified as a biosphere region by UNESCO in 1988, this incredible area is known for its breathtaking natural wonders and beautiful landscapes.
We spoke to Tourisme Charlevoix about the sections of the Trans Canada Trail in the region and what activities, attractions and must-sees are on offer.

Nature, art and culinary experiences in Baie-Saint-Paul

Recognized as a cultural capital, Baie-Saint-Paul stands out for its natural setting and rich agri-tourism offerings. The town offers a unique blend of art, culinary experiences and exceptional landscapes. Set off on an adventure along the Trail, then continue into town to discover, savour and enjoy some unforgettable moments!

Sentier de la Baie
Ideal for: Hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing
This Trail section is nestled in the Saint Lawrence lowlands, surrounded by lush hills, between Petite-Rivière-Saint-François and Baie-Saint-Paul. Follow this section of the Trail into town and discover the landscapes that have inspired so many painters.
Sentier du Gouffre
Ideal for: Hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing
Access the Sentier du Gouffre via the Robert-Leblanc multipurpose trail. Il follows the Gouffre River and includes several footbridges for crossing the waterways. En route, you’ll find viewpoints of the city of Baie-Saint-Paul, the mountains, the Gouffre Valley and the Saint Lawrence River!
Sentier Les Florent
Ideal for: Hiking, snowshoeing
The Sentier Les Florent can be found between Baie-Saint-Paul and Saint-Urbain, stretching over 18.2 km and offering 7 access points, so it’s easy to create your own itinerary. Please note that a section of this trail is currently closed.

While you’re exploring Baie-Saint-Paul, don’t miss the contemporary art museum and numerous galleries. At the Laiterie Charlevoix, you’ll find several types of cheese to sample, plus an ecomuseum! Another excellent cheese option is the Famille Migneron de Charlevoix — it’s definitely worth a visit to check out their cheese, wine and spirits. And bonus: it’s on the Trail! There’s no shortage of restaurants, cafés and bakeries in the area!
