Trail Funding Program

What is the Trail Funding Program?

The Trail Funding Program is intended to support Trail operators across Canada in the development and enhancement of the Trans Canada Trail by offering a range of funding streams designed to support specific Trail priorities. To review the details of the individual funding streams, please refer to the individual guidelines for each of the funding streams listed below.  

Please note that these guidelines are subject to change. Applicants are advised to read through the guidelines prior to each grant intake and subsequent application submissions.

FUNDING
STREAMS

Trans Canada Trail will fund projects through the following funding streams. Please refer to the appropriate funding stream guidelines for further clarification. 

Trail Infrastructure and Major Repairs Stream

The Trail Infrastructure and Major Repairs funding stream was designed to develop and implement planning and construction projects along the Trans Canada Trail that will increase and improve the quality and value of the network, as well as improve the safety and comfort of users.

Trail Destination Development Stream 

The Trail Destination Development funding stream provides grants to support the development of  diverse and sustainable trail tourism destinations through investments in tourism infrastructure,  experience and product development, visitor-use management, and capacity-building initiatives along the Trans Canada Trail.

Accessibility and Inclusion in Trails Stream

Trans Canada Trail’s mission is to connect Canadians and visitors through accessible and inclusive outdoor activities. To that end, Trans Canada Trail’s Accessibility and Inclusion in Trails funding stream supports projects and initiatives that increase diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility along the Trail.

Climate Emergency Support Fund 

The Climate Emergency Support Fund (CESF) stream is intended for those groups in need of financial support to reopen their trail to a safe and usable condition following a natural climate event (e.g., flood, hurricane, tornado, windstorm, forest fire, etc.).
